Getting back on track

I have failed.  I had family visit for the past 10 days and I have not been doing the best at staying on track.  Now, I haven't been eating terribly but with christmas, new years and my mother's amazing urges to order food for my fiance and I it has been very difficult to keep on track.  Chinese food and pizza can wreck havoc on that.  Also, my fiance made whole wheat chocolate chip cookies that are tough to resist.  However, considering they made 36 cookies (teaspoon size) 6 days ago and there are still about a dozen left with both of us eating them that is preety damn good for me.  I have always been a sucker for anything with sugar in it.  I also forced myself to stick to 2 pieces of pizza at a time, and only let myself eat pizza once a day (with the exception of 1 day).  So...out of the 24 pieces we ordered there are about 8 being thrown out tomorrow morning b/c I'm forcing myself not to eat it just to eat it.  That's always been tough for me as I was taught when I was a kid to clean my plate.

So anyway, this has been a very challenging week but I am determined to make it through.  I purchased a pedometer that can be carried in a pocket or purse and have been using it.  10,000 steps per day is really not as many as I thought.  Its very possible with some effort.

I have been debating joining a gym but my problem is I don't drive and I am not a morning person at all.  So getting up before work doesn't work, and after work all I want to do is go home.  So, still reconsidering it but at the moment I think I will be happy with the walking.  I plan to add some resistance training soon to start toning as I lose.

Weigh in today

I weighed myself today.  As of this morning I am down to 315.0!  That's very exciting for me and I'm already noticing a difference in how I feel.  My fiance says I look smaller but I don't see it.  I'm sure I will soon.  We made homemade wheat bread yesterday and it is delicious.  So, this morning I had a breakfast sandwich with wheat bread, an egg, a few pieces of ham and a bit of cheese.  All in all, around 300 calories and extremely filling.  I may have to consider that as breakfast more often.  I'm buying myself a pedometer tomorrow so I can get a handle on the amount of exercise I do in a day.  I do not have a car and therefore we spend a lot of time walking to the bus stop and back.  However, I'm not really sure how far away the bus stop is so it is tough to estimate the distance traveled.

This post will be short as I have to get to work.  Good luck to all in your efforts.

Begining calorie tracker/plan

My plan is to shoot for 1600-1800 calories a day.  This is right in the range for 2 pounds a week weight loss and honestly I'm finding it difficult to hit 1800 while watching calories.  I have gotten a rude awakening to how terrible I have been eating for the last 15 years or so, as most of the main meals I eat are fairly healthy.  I've never drank a lot of soda or other bad for you drinks.  My downfall is sugar.  I have a serious sweet tooth and have a hard time saying no to cake, candy, cookies or anything else that comes out of an oven with sugar in it :(  I am determined to make this work however and as such am carefully tracking my calorie intake daily and will do my best to post what I've been taking in.
11/29--2424 calories (obviously the first day I started tracking them)
7 cups of water this day
11/30--1700 calories
          16 cups of water
12/1--1505 calories
          14 cups
12/2--1175+ (I forgot to track dinner so I'm missing around 400-500 for the day)
12/3-12/5--forgot to track at all :(
12/6--1330 calories
4 cups of water today (not good )
12/7--1650 calories
         6 cups of water
12/8--1500 calories
         10 cups of water
12/9--1664 calories
         4 cups of water
12/10--900 calories (I must be missing a meal on here but not sure which)
         6 cups of water
12/11-12/13--forgot to track
12/14--1350 calories
         4 cups of water
12/15--1120 calories
         10 cups of water
12/16--1245 calories
          10 cups of water
12/17--1480 calories
         10 cups of water
12/18--1361 calories
          10 cups of water

So, over the past few weeks I have been below calorie budget essentially every day.  Now, it is obviously working as this morning I weighed myself and I am down to 316 which is an average of more than 2 pounds per week.  However, I do not want to send my body into starvation mode and 1400 calories is realistically too low for my weight so I need to add some calories to breakfast and lunch to try to be closer to 1600-1800.  I will try that this week and let you know how it goes.

I also did a good chunk of exercise for me on the 18th.  It added to around 1 hour of walking and I noticed a large amount of energy in the morning after breakfast and half an hour of exercise.  I'll have to try to replicate this and see if that works consistantly.

Starting stats

I've been working on my weight loss efforts for a little while now but I figured I should probably include a post about where I started.  Startin at a weight of 326 and a BMI of 57.74, I have a long way to go.  It will be a tough journey but worth it in the end I'm sure.  I'll enjoy looking at life with all options open to me rather than limiting what I choose to do by what I am not able to do.

I calculated how long it would take me to lose all the weight I want to lose.  Assuming an average weight loss of 2 pounds per week, I should be down to the following on these dates:  I'm going to post them here so I can look back on the progress over time.

02/14/11--304
03/08/11--298
07/04/11--264
10/31/11--230
12/25/11--214
02/14/12--200
03/08/12--194
07/04/12--160
09/10/12--140

Now I don't expect to be lucky enough to average a solid 2 pounds a week with zero plateaus, however I would be thrilled with goal weight by xmas 2012.

Welcome

Welcome to all of you.  I started my weight loss efforts a few weeks ago, but have been thinking about the fact that I have always had problems keeping my motivation up.  However, this time I cannot afford to fail.

To give you all an idea of who I am: I'm a 24 year old woman that weighed 326 pounds when I started weight loss efforts.  I've never tried any fad diets, with the exceptions of 6WBMO (which works by the way if your willing to stick to it).  My problem with diets has always been that I love food.  I enjoy cooking new and interesting meals and the same old thing for dinner every night drives me crazy.  Plus, I have paying other people to do something I can do myself and therefore all the preportioned meal plans are out.

I don't have a lot of money, in fact my house operates below the poverty line.  I'm starting this blog to keep up my motivation and to show others that it can indeed be done if you simply stick to it, even if you cannot afford all the high priced meal plans.  I will do this without surgery and without a nutritionist or physical trainer (at least for the first 130 pounds or so).  Bottom line is, if I wait untill I can afford their support I will never do it and if they were able to learn the information so can I.

I am starting a lifestyle change.  Feel free to comment, or even join me in your weight loss efforts.  Whether you have 5-10-20 or 200 pounds to lose it can all be done.

Well, off to work for a couple hours but I will post the details of the last few weeks when I get back.
